My students are passionate STEAM learners who love using technology to express themselves! They are adept at using new technology to make sense of the world, connect meaning and ideas across disciplines, and discovering unexpected ways to use new tools
Every time my students get the chance to use technology to express themselves, they come alive with passion.
They are always pushing, exploring, and discovering.
Many of our students love the arts as much as the other STEM subject areas, but don't always have the means to express themselves in these ways. Our school services a diverse population from all over the Ann Arbor district, some of whom just don't have the resources to encounter the opportunities that others do.
My Project
I believe it's important to show students that they can become creators and not just consumers, and to show them that the subjects they may be more resistant to in school, like math or writing, are actually deeply embedded in the broader world.
As a teacher and electronic musician for over 20 years, I want to give my students the opportunity to learn how electronic music works by running a free afterschool electronic music club.
For this to be successful, we'll need some tools to give students a chance to unlock the creativity inside of them.
This project will fund the purchase of several basic tools, including an audio interface (for recording sounds into the computer) and two keyboard controllers (for connecting to the computer to make melodies and beats).
