Ms. G. from MD is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a variety of locks (8), lock boxes (2), invisible pens, UV lights, reflection cards and hint cards in order for us to create an 'escape room' learning environment.

Greetings DonorsChoose supporters! My students are English Language Learners (ELLs). They range in English proficiency language skills. Some are refugees, some crossed borders to connect with family, and others are US born to parents who came over earlier. As a teacher leader, I often facilitate professional development opportunities with teachers in my district (outside of our regular hours).
All of our students are interested and eager for more hands on learning.
They are ready to be pushed into more critical thinking activities as they continue to acquire English language skills. While my schools aren't Title I, my students are often without adequate support at home. Parents are working many hours and can't always support homework and projects at home.
Escape room entertainment has become very popular. My students are not familiar with the concept, however, they do enjoy challenges of figuring out how to solve riddles. Creating our own learning environment where students have to (literally) unlock clues to look for answers in text (and video) will allow my students to develop critical thinking skills. Additionally, patience to persist will be a focus as students aren't just given the answers but they must think logically and construct their understanding within the topics and themes we are learning. I plan to share these materials with other teachers after modeling how my classes are using them to increase engagement and be certain to use the 4Cs (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication) . These kits also come with one year access to immersive activities and games already created in many content areas across all grade levels.
