Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Arizona where 88 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. They are also working to learn the English language.
Many of my students receive blessings in backpack food on the weekend.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best entering everyday with a smile on their face. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
I want my students to use this as a reinforcement during their center time. Center time is where they work independently to enhance the skills previously taught while I pull small groups.
Power Pen work with card sets, providing instant feedback!
Students will simply press the pen to a card to choose an answer, then they will hear a kid-friendly phrases for their correct answers and a redirection for an incorrect response.
The math cards will develop skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, place value, telling time and money. The reading cards will develop skills in reading comprehension, reading literature, reading nonfiction, sequencing, inferences, compare & contrast, and vocabulary.
