My Students

Our school's primary goal is to help each student develop and maintain a high level of self-esteem and a “can-do” attitude. He are one of the two Dual Language Schools in the urban population in Urbana, Illinois.

I am a special education teacher working with students with specific learning disabilities in reading and math.

I currently have a caseload of ten fourth and fifth grade students. The students I work with struggle specifically with staying focused in class.

My Project

A 2009 study published in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology demonstrated that children, especially those with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, tend to move around more when they are using working memory to solve problems. The upshot is that fidgety behavior in children may look like distraction but can actually facilitate the learning process by helping them maintain focus.

I am open and willing to trying whatever it takes to help my students maintain focus during our group time.

My hope is the wobble seats and the cushion seats will benefit my special education students and help their attention issues. Thank you so much.
