My students are amazing. I work with students both with disabilities and without and I am constantly amazed at what they can do. Some are working on learning English. We are in a small southern town.
These are incredible students from a great community.
They work hard, but sometimes, its hard to reach students who may not see the practical use for what we do. They need help to access their education. We are a small city in the south. We are a community with a blend of cultures, such students speaking Spanish with a southern accent. In spite of these differences they help each other so well, like the 5th grader who gives up some of his time to help my 3rd graders read
My Project
Flexible seating and quiet fidget options can change everything for my students. It can mean they spend more time in the class and listening, and less time off topic or in trouble. Often my students are the ones who can't sit still. They want to be good students, but need accommodations like flexible seating and controlled movement.
Studies have the increased movement in some students has also led to increased focus.
Wobble seats are excellent for students with ADHD. Sometimes they have to sit on their own in order not to distract others, but the stools allow them to not distract peers. It means they can get more group work, and often makes for more friendships for them.
The fidgets are important because our students learn best in the classroom, not the principals office. Students who need to fidget are going to find a way, whether it’s scissors, pencils, or other supplies. If we choose what they fidget with we can insure it is safe, quiet, and beneficial for the student
