Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classes consist of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities in an Intensive Communication Academy. After completing their academic activities, the students are given task boxes to develop and practice independent skills. Skills such as sorting, counting, and/or sequencing skills. I have also created task boxes that allow the students to be creative with various materials. The students can explore their imagination by building unique toys. All of my students enjoy working in various task boxes with easy, unique and challenging tasks.

My Project

After every daily lesson, the students are given the opportunity to work on individual task boxes. Each box contains different unique short activities for students to develop, learn, and practice a new skill independently.

The boxes are quite simple; they are small compartments that contain materials for a specific activity.

The activities are typically short and structured at their independent level. Each box may offer a nice blend of familiarity or a new challenging task. Each student is supervised until he/she learns the task. Then they are monitored by an adult to develop and practice the skills which will lead each child to become more independent at completing their work. The students learn quickly, therefore, the materials in each box have to updated frequently. The student's curiosity, interests, and creativity can be supported by replenishing the boxes with unique, fun, and challenging activities. This keeps the students interested and engaged in practicing and therefore learning new skills. Your support will provide new fun hands-on activities to be used in the task boxes. For example, with the stencil set, the students will have the materials necessary to create their own art drawings independently. The science folder will be used to practice and review simple science skills. The LIKEE and Soyee puzzle will improve their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and creative thinking skills. They will also help to develop and practice sorting, counting and color recognition skills. My students also need to challenged and engaged with new fun hands-on activities. Help me support their independence skills, their creativity, and their imagination through the use of unique challenging materials in the task boxes.
