Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This the fifth year of our high school STEM program. Students in this program work towards advanced science and engineering content as well as excelling in programs in Math, History, English and Foreign Language. Currently, this program serves about 370 students and it is growing each year. While our school has a mixed demographic we have over 50% of our students with English as a second language. My students represent about 20% of the population that are in the biomedical program.
Last year our students had a 100% acceptance rate for institutions of higher learning, from Community Colleges through Universities such as Kansas State University, Boston College and San Francisco University.
Students are dedicated to community service and the entire student body have complete over 4, 000 hours of service in the last year included setting up a community blood drive and tutoring of elementary and middle school students.
Our students are dedicated to their education as they enter this voluntary program. This program targets students from underprivileged demographics in attempts to help boost there access to higher learning. Our school is considered a Title 1 school and we are a 100% free lunch based on students needs.
My Project
For us to attend special conferences, and explore health care careers, our students need to have business clothing. These Uniform parts; Pants, skirts and Shirts are basics that the students in the medical program need. Students who have the proper uniform are able to attend state and national training events and competitions
Events that students wear these clothes, help to develop their leadership skills, competitive spirit, and inspire their humanitarian desires.
Our desire is to attend 5 events this year where these high school students will the opportunity to meet mentors in the fields of medicine they wish to pursue.
