Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students served are from 9th to 12th grade. They are mostly Hispanic children with low-income families living in humble apartments with limited access to the services offered from the public system. These students and their parents struggle daily to get a decent and balanced diet, healthy life style and access to basic food, hygiene, and school supply items. Students are eager to learn, despite a language barrier, and they need to be able to attend school. This is why I'd like to support them, making sure they can have access to uniform polo shirts which are available to them during the school day.
My Project
My students belong to very low income families that sometimes just cannot afford to buy them the proper outfit for school. Our school requires a uniform (green polo shirt) that needs to be worn on a daily basis. If a student is found without this polo shirt, there will be a written consequence, parents will be notified and it will all most likely end with In-School Suspension (ISS). This suspension prevents students from learning and being in the classroom with their classmates.
Having some green polo shirts handy for both males and females in different sizes will help students and school reduce the number of infractions related to school uniform.
