My school is a Title I school with 65% of the students qualifying for Free and Reduced-Priced lunch. The students are hard working and range in ability levels from Special Education to Gifted and Talented with all grade levels and classrooms.
I teach all 43 fifth graders math as well as teaching my homeroom students science and social studies.
They are a diverse group of learners from all backgrounds. Students come into the classroom willing to try new concepts when you make it fun and engaging!
My Project
Students will each get to participate and track their movement activities with the UNICEF Kid Power Bands. These activities will then unlock therapeutic food packets that UNICEF delivers to severely malnourished children.
Students will be changing their lives and those of children in need, one step at a time!
It is extremely important for students to develop healthy habits like movement and eating right as well as social-emotional needs like empathy, kindness, and a growth mindset. These fit trackers can help students become aware of their daily habits while joining a movement that is helping a great cause at the same time.
My students will also put these fit trackers to use in mathematics. They can track their steps using Google Sheets, create graphs both on the computer and by hand, and create realistic goals to improve their activity.
