My students are a wonderful, happy group of 12 students with special needs. They come from a low-income community, and our classroom is full of second language learners, as well as students brand-new to the country.
They come to school every day excited and eager to learn.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. My students are respectful of their classmates, and they all share a love for learning.
My students are required to wear a navy blue top as part of their school uniform. Having access to clean, well-fitted uniform tops, sweatshirts, as needed is an important self-esteem booster for my students. Many of my students outgrow their uniforms over the course of the school year and need a replacement top. Some of the students do not have access to a washing machine in their apartments and need a loner uniform while we wash theirs at school. The temperature in our school building is drastically different depending on which area we are in, so many students need to borrow a sweatshirt for the day.
