My school is consistently one of the top performing schools in our state despite having a high number of free and reduced lunch students due to one reason only: a great attitude!
My students love to learn!
Our small community has high expectations for the students, and the students have high expectations for themselves. They are curious and want to know more about everything! My students have learned to say, "I do not know that - YET!"
There are over 420 students in my school, and 107 of those student are 4th graders. We are located in a small village in Michigan called Spring Lake. My school is one of only two elementary schools in our district. Despite being small we have big ideas! We are preparing our students for a global world that does not even exist yet and to be lifelong lovers of learning.
My Project
As a part of our 4th grade science curriculum, we study what animals need in order to survive in their environment. We talk about organisms needing space, food, air, and water. We study what characteristics would give one animal an advantage over another animal in its habitat. We study various smaller aquatic animals like snails, frogs, and guppies that live in a tank in our room, but we never really get the big picture of what it would be like to live and survive as a mammal in an ocean habitat.
Your donation will help our 4th graders experience the life of one special dolphin.
In Disney Nature's film, "Dolphins," we follow Echo as he learns that dolphin society is tricky, and the coral reef that Echo and his family call home depends on all of its inhabitants to keep it healthy.
In honor of Earth Day, we would love to experience this movie on the big screen together as a full group of Holmes Elementary 4th grade students.
