I am a first year kindergarten teacher at a Title One school in Oakland where over seventy percent of our student population receives free school lunch. Many of my students are in crisis situations at home, and school is their safe and happy place. I am committed to providing my students with engaging learning activities and making our classroom a safe and inviting environment.
Having proficient academic and social-emotional skills is essential for all students to be successful as they move through elementary school and beyond.
My kindergarten students have a variety of abilities and skills. Each day, we will work to develop the critical skills necessary to be lifelong learners in our community.
My Project
My students come from diverse backgrounds and are interested in learning about those who are different from themselves. I want to give my students literature that celebrates uniqueness to support lessons about diversity, inclusivity, and community. With the materials in the Social-Emotional Development bundle, my students will learn about differing abilities, empathy, and the importance of diversity through books, art projects, and games.
Teaching about inclusivity and diversity shouldn't be something only done in a few lessons; it should be incorporated into the classroom curriculum throughout the year!
The Holidays Around the World Paperback Library will be used to teach students about how different holidays are celebrated by different communities throughout the year.
