My Students

A typical day in my classroom is rigorous! We take pride in our work, and we never give up. We begin our day with science and try to incorporate as much reading into the curriculum as possible!

My students are from a low income area of Tulsa.

This is the first year of teaching that I have had students with a hunger for learning! They want to share their knowledge with me everyday! My kids love soccer, reading, and being known as "The Best Huskies" in our school.

My Project

My students need Time for Kids, National Geographic Readers, and Scholastic News. My students will not only enjoy reading the magazines and books, they will also be using them to practice nonfiction comprehension. We need to master the standard of understanding nonfiction, and the vocabulary used in nonfiction. Also, my students will be interpreting and creating graphic organizers. It can be very difficult to find free material to reach these standards, or expensive to pay for them.

If my class receives these materials, they will be equipped for testing, 5th grade, and beyond.

There is no level of education one can conquer without knowing the skills it takes to understand, enjoy, and create nonfiction passages.
