My 7th and 8th grade students come from a vast array of backgrounds and our school cannot fund any extra things to enhance the children's learning. I have taught for 25 years and this is my fifth year at Athenian.
My students come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, and they don't all have access to trips to museums or family trips that would make the subjects studied in literature or civics come to life.
Our school is the first Greek Immersion school in the United States. Most of our students study Greek and Spanish K-8th grades and they leave our school feeling a little more connected to our world's current events.
My 7th and 8th graders have limited access to the computer lab and that means that we don't have the option to do a lot of research based activities. It's my hope to enlarge their global perspective.
My Project
I need your help to help my students excel in the 21st Century!
Students will work in groups researching various themes, history and topics that relate to literature and history.
Students will create group and individual projects. In order to do so effectively, my students need access to laptops that are reliable and available in the classroom. I am raising money for five laptops that can be used in my classroom in groups of four students each.
My students must practice: researching, writing, presenting and evaluating good, oral presentations so that they are more able to be marketable in today's society.
My Seventh and Eighth graders will be competing with young men and women from across or county to get into the high schools of their choice.
In order to accomplish this feat, the students will need to be able to proficiently use the technology that would be provided by this grant.
By sponsoring this grant, you will help my students gain skills that will secure a better future for themselves.
