My Students

The incredible 4th grade students in Ms Martin's class are witty and expressive. They love life and learning. They keep me on my toes with their energy and their inquisitive nature. They are also resilient after the past 2 years of roller coaster education due to COVID-19. They love being in school and we are all working hard to identify areas that we can be better in.

They are learning to be persistent and to solve problems as they build on the the previous knowledge acquired in kindergarten to third grade.

I have a wide variety of students from different backgrounds and countries, speaking 4 different languages. I love them a lot.

My Project

After basic but spotty due to Covid-19 fraction education 1st through 3rd grade, we learn to manipulate fractions by adding, subtraction and basic addition. To successful learn these concepts, we need a solid foundation in equivalent fractions. One of the best ways to get this is with concrete manipulatives that will help them SEE the equivalency. For example, 1/2 is the same as 2/4, 3/6, or 4/8. SO, 1/2 + 4/8 is the same as 1/2 + 1/2 which equals one whole. It will help my students to SEE this with the benchmark fraction manipulatives.
