Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our interactive STEM classroom is designed to challenge students with engineering design projects and computer programming units. We hope to utilize these Electrical Circuit kits to experiment with building circuits and having a deeper understanding of electricity.
My middle school is located in East Oakland, California.
My students are primarily from low-income immigrant families and they are highly motivated to achieve. They are all proficient to advanced in mathematics and they want rigorous curriculum. My students wake up early to attend my STEM class before the official start time of school. They are waiting at my door at 7:55am to be challenged and learn about the possibilities in engineering and technology. My school is very community-based, with an active family center and mental and physical health services at our school-based clinic. We have an amazing team of highly qualified teachers that strive to serve a community that in many ways has been neglected and struggles with poverty and violence.
My Project
We will complete a project using the Electrical Circuit kits to understand concepts such as parallel circuits and resistors. The wireless circuit board is easy to assembly and allows for problem solving and critical thinking skills to figure out how to solve design challenges.
This project will change my student's lives for the better because it will open their mind to the endless possibilities of things they can create and build using technology.
It is one thing to learn about these concepts in a book, but to actually create and build interactive circuits will be a memorable experience.
