Understanding Economics through Graphic Textbook

My students need an easy to understand economic book which explains economic theories by engaging the students to interact with the text.

My Students

I teach Honors Government to tenth grade students and AP World History to ninth grade students in an inner-city urban public high school. Our school is an IB for all school in which every student works toward the International Baccalaureate diploma.

We are a diverse community of learners reaching across the spectrum of ability levels, race, religions, sexual orientation, and socio-economic levels.

Many of the students have not traveled out of state and few have traveled outside of the United States.

My Project

Economix is a graphic economics textbook. This format will allow my students to engage with the text at an appropriate academic level. The text is arranged by historical eras which blends nicely with incorporating US history and government concepts as well as economics.

The graphics illustrate different economic concepts and help the student to grasps the graphs and formulas used in economic theory.

Because of the graphic novel style, students of all cognitive abilities are able to understand the economic theories and practices in a global economy and thereby prepare them for future IB courses as they continue their high school careers.
