Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Spending an afternoon underneath the stars is not a common occurrence for a 2nd grader in New York City. But with a visit to Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, my students will learn about planets, stars, and mysterious black holes! I am asking for ticket admission to the Planetarium for 30 students and 10 adult chaperones so that my students can experience the wonders of space! In my 2nd grade classroom at P.S. 115 in Washington Heights, getting the parents of my students involved is essential to the learning process. Since it is a primarily Dominican neighborhood, many of the parents do not speak English. The field trip to the Museum of Natural History is a great opportunity for those parents to come with their children and experience one of the great museums of New York City. The museum even provides Spanish translation headsets for the space show in the Planetarium! I am asking for this grant because the cost of field trips is often a difficulty in my school. The parents of my students are incredibly giving and generous with their time, but sometimes there is not extra money for things like field trips. My students would be thrilled to have an opportunity to see the space show at the Planetarium! Thank you so much for your consideration!
