Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I've been lucky enough to watch many of my students grow from freshman to seniors and meet new talent each year. They live in a low socioeconomic community, learning at a Title I school. With that, they work through their personal struggles through their art; rising above, telling stories and healing.
My students are extremely talented with limited resources, who are determined to create the best works they can.
They learn skills in the traditional arts such as drawing, painting, clay, and 3D sculpture, which for many lead them to be confident enough to enter art shows and competitions.
My Project
We would be creating a professional gallery space in a prominent location in the school building to highlight and showcase our students' artwork for students and staff, as well as visitors to our campus. This display will not only show them that their hard work is worth it, but also show them what a gallery can be on a small scale.
These supplies would help get display walls and panels as well as podiums to be able to present the students 2D and 3D artwork safely.
This gallery space would exhibit great art project pieces from Art 1 through AP students from both art classes and competitions.
