The visual art program at my school provides a foundation in art education with a focus on art making, history, criticsm and reflection.
There are 650 students in grades 1-5 that come to art class every week.
These students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds in rural South Carolina. For some students, art at school is their only exposure to the arts. Our art program is able to provide ALL of them a chance to experience the world of art around them!
My Project
I am really excited to be building a future and an art program at my school. Right now, we are cramped and could use your help.
Getting stools for our room will give students a better learning and working environment for years to come.
Often times there isn't space for me to move between students' chairs to assist them or for students to freely move around the room.
In my classroom there are six student tables. Many classes that come to art have 6 students working at one table. Having stools will free up lots of floor space since they are able scoot entirely under the table. Stools also allow artists who need to stand while creating the chance to do so without blocking teacher assistance or causing a jam. In art class, it is important for us to have enough room to safely and effectively create and learn.
