Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my technology class are culturally diverse. Many are recent immigrants and together they speak over 20 different languages. In addition, they all have different learning abilities and learning styles. They are energetic, curious and are enthusiastic about participating in new experiences.
My regular education, special education and ELL students love technology and especially coding!
They have been using Google;s Scratch to code in the computer lab and are so engaged in it! All they want to do in technology class is code! They are inspired by many of the famous people who are coders and are featured on the code.org website.
We are a Title I school in a low-income neighborhood. Many of our students don't have computers or access to the internet at home so they rely on the school to both teach them and allow them to use technology. In this day and age it is important to create creative and innovative students. To do that we need the technology tools to help spark their imagination and thinking.
My Project
As a technology teacher, I am always thinking of ways to make technology learning experiences creative and interactive helping all types of learners. Interactive board games are a great way to teach important technology skills such as coding to students. Board games provide for kinesthetic learning as well as teaching unique concepts and providing different play styles. In addition, they promote problem solving and social interaction.
Coding board games will help my students who have different learning styles learn all types of coding concepts in a highly interactive and creative way while at the same time be inspired by playing a game created by a 9 year old!
