As a teacher in a low-poverty Title I school, I see the different challenges that our students face in and outside of school. With all of these challenges, sometimes it is difficult to see what is hidden in their hearts. However, when given the chance, and with some coaching and encouragement, I know our students can open up to reveal their true colors of positivity and awesomeness to the world. By opening up, I hope that they can help others become more positive and remind themselves that they can achieve greatness now and in the future.
As the yearbook advisor, I am always pushing my students to find new and creative ways to take and share photographs. As a STEM teacher, I am always trying to document the fun activities in my class. In this project I want to combine what I do in both of these roles. I would like to have my students take photos of people (students, teachers, or community members) that are featured in their "Passionate Teacher Project" for STEM class where they interview a teacher who has directly influenced them. They will then print the photos instantly, share the photos with the subjects, and then take another photo (of the subject and the photo), taking advantage of no-wait technology, allowing people to receive a keepsake of the interview experience immediately.
"Passion Projects", or "20% projects" are sometimes related to STEM classes where students spent 20% of their time researching something they are really passionate about, mimicking a practice made popular by Google.
In previous semesters students really enjoyed working on passion projects. By adding this additional element of being able to document and share in real time will make it even more fun and enjoyable.
The items that I am requesting include 2 HP Sprocket printers in 2 various sizes, carrying cases, and additional paper. The printers are small enough to fit into a pocket, and more importantly, they are battery powered, allowing for them to be carried around from one classroom to another without any cords. The cases will be used for storage for keeping the printers clean and safe. The additional paper is necessary as the printing is normally sold without any paper at all.
