Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Lenny Kravitz wrote, "I get a lot of joy from playing instruments, and I have a different personality on each instrument. I like to let that come out." In my music room, I see many students, each with their own shining personalities. They are all musicians in the making.
Making music with instruments builds self-esteem, creates responsibility, and encourages self-expression.
My school is located just outside of Amarillo, TX. We are a Title I school. Many students live in rural areas and travel up to 40 minutes to get to school each morning. We have a very diverse population, with many students from immigrant families. Several students are ESL learners.
My Project
I was very fortunate to receive a class set of ukuleles in a past DonorsChoose project. They have been a great asset to my classroom; however, safe storage of the ukuleles has been a concern. I currently have to lay the instruments flat on a counter, where they are accessible to all students and frankly in the way. To aid this issue, I would like to purchase a ukulele storage cart.
This cart would allow the ukuleles to be stored safely, while still giving the students easy access.
Additionally, this cart would be great for moving the ukuleles in future performances. Thank you for investing in my classroom!
