Throughout the year, the chorus, guitar, band, and piano students perform concerts and competitions, sing for local senior homes, and play in school recitals and musicals. Guitar classes have taken over as the most popular music class with at least 75 students each year taking guitar classes, but most recently, ukuleles have become a common part of the day in all classes. Students in chorus, piano, and guitar all want to play the ukulele!
I am inspired by these students each day as many of them start these classes as "non-musicians" and leave the class wanting to perform and take other music classes.
Let's give them every chance we can to succeed!
I want all of our high school students to have the best advantage for when they move on to college or the workforce. I also want each student to find an appreciation for music and possibly make it a lifelong talent. As long as they are given the opportunity, our students have a strong dedication to succeed in music, in the school, and in our community. I truly look forward to many of our students becoming professional musicians, educators, and leaders in their field of study.
My Project
The story goes like this: twelve students signed up for the new Ukulele Club, but over 40 showed up for the first meeting! I have one personal ukulele and three borrowed ones for now. We don't have nearly enough for the students to play!
Six new ukuleles and wall mounts will get us on the right track and get students excited about playing music!
The ukulele is a very popular instrument right now. This is easy to see as the four ukuleles that are in my room are played every single day.
It is obvious that the students at our school enjoy playing the ukulele and want to play more often. I want to give them that chance to learn an instrument, perform, collaborate with other students, and possibly join other musical ensembles and classes.
