The students I have are a special group of kids that learn with hands-on activities. I have students that are on the autism spectrum, orthopedic impaired, and other special needs in my classroom. They come to school each day ready to learn new things socially and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Every child in my classroom absolutely loves learning!
The method and environment in which my students learn best vary greatly. They have the desire to learn, but often needs that extra special something that helps them access the curriculum in a meaningful way. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! My students would love a way to express themselves academically and creatively. They have the desire to learn, but often needs that extra special something that helps them access the curriculum in a meaning way. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
I have recently experienced a great opportunity through Guitars in the Classroom for my students by receiving music integration training specifically for SpED. I am excited to bring it to the students at the beginning of the school year. But there aren't enough instruments for all of our students, which seriously limits what we can do.
With the requested ukuleles, my students will be able to increase their musical understanding and that will extend to subject areas such as literacy, art, science, and social-emotional development.
Music isn't just a stand-alone subject. In my class, it will be integrated into all curricular areas. Students each will get to strum on the few ukuleles I currently will have in the classroom, but they will get limited time and opportunities. With more instruments, our strumming stations can accommodate more students and give more opportunities for this unique blended learning.
My training through Guitars in the Classroom has encouraged me to share the joy of playing the ukulele with my students. With more instruments, the chance to participate in this amazing experience would increase dramatically.
