My students need 10 classroom ukuleles to begin their journey to different countries through music. They will also learn more about popular culture and music through learning popular music on ukulele.

My Students

Many of my students come from low-income families. Their families are working hard to provide their basic needs and many times do not have the means to provide enrichment in the arts or other extra curricular activities.

Our school is a place where students feel accepted and allowed to flourish as their true selves, emphasizing and encouraging their basic interests as a starting point for success in many different areas of learning, and life in general.

This experience will broaden their horizons and help them understand their dreams and goals don't have to have limits.

My Project

Students will begin learning basic chords and strumming patterns on the ukuleles as a group. We will then use ukuleles in other ensemble pieces with drums, xylophones, and other rhythm instruments.

World Music Drumming curriculum and other similar resources will be used, as well as beginning ukulele books.

Students will also work on singing and playing together using Easy Songs for Ukulele which uses popular songs they are familiar with, while also learning music from other parts of the world and working together as an ensemble.

Our goal is to reach all the students, including our lower income families, with an instrument that is easily accessible for them at school and also at home. To encourage making music is something for everyone!
