Each week my 350 students walk into my class eager to discover what new musical project I have for them. Of course, my ability to provide them with exciting, meaningful musical instruction depends on the resources I have and can be limited by that which I do not have. This is where you come in.
Our students are adorable, fun-filled students from disadvantaged backgrounds and shattered families, in high poverty with high illiteracy rates.
They are African-American students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. But, wow, are their hearts big and, boy, do they love music!
Here at BOES we are all heart and soul. We have no budget so we rely entirely on the contribution, charity, and good will. Can you imagine the thrill that my inner city elementary aged students will have when they get their own ukulele? Please help me get these instruments and I promise that I will help our children achieve great music.
Richmond Public Schools is trying very hard to help lift children out of poverty and provide stimulating activities but with little or no budget we have no choice but to hope and pray that your generosity will give us the opportunity.
