My Columbus area middle school serves students in grades six through eight. Our students are amazing! There is something truly unique about teaching students in the middle grades. Students are open to exploration and beginning to develop true preferences, while also discovering new talents. Each day is filled with students learning something new about themselves and what they can do. It is a real honor to witness students as they discover who they are and who they want to be.
I am reminded daily that my students are capable of creating a better world and they are actively pursuing it.
I teach a middle school general music that is specific to students that may need occupational therapy or other services. This is my first year teaching the class. During our first semester, students played boom whackers and really enjoyed them. After observing my students, I think ukuleles would be the perfect extension and allow students to continue to learn instruments.
Ukuleles are great for developing fine motor skills in a low-risk way.
Students can play many beginning chords with just one finger. This will allow students to develop their skills and achieve success very quickly. Students will gain confidence along with their new skills.
