Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
SES educates 600 students who come from poor working families. They are mostly ESL and some students do not speak English at all. SES teaches grade Kindergarten through 5th Grade and music is such a universal language. Music can help breach the language barriers and help teach these students. The community is made up of mostly Hispanic and African American children from a working-class family, however, most of these students do not have much extra things in their lives. With the purchase of the ukuleles, I think they would gain so much knowledge from a hands-on instrument and experience the joy the ukulele can bring them.
My Project
My name is Jamie Becker and I am the music teacher of SES in Bradenton, FL. Samoset is a town of low-income families and quite a few ESL students. Music is such a universal language and I want to teach the students how to play the ukulele in music class. I would try to incorporate ukulele in every grade level from Kindergarten through 5th grade. I would love to have a ukulele performance by the club by the end of the year.
For just around $50, that would sponsor one child to be able to learn the ukulele.
I am hoping to receive enough funding to purchase a full class set of at least 25 ukuleles.
Please help make this dream of mine a reality. I had tried to raise money on Facebook fundraiser...and had raised nearly $700...but I did not take it out in time (because I was trying to be responsible with the money and leave it there until I needed it for the ukuleles...) so it disappeared...and I told the kids about getting that money and now they are disappointed...
Thank you for your donation...every little bit helps!
