Ukuleles as a Tool For Learning

Help me give my students an introduction to the ukulele and playing instruments. I am looking to purchase a classroom set of ukuleles for my students, but don't have the funds to purchase them.

My Students

My students don't come from the best background, but they are some of the sweetest kids you have ever met. Many of these kiddos are immigrants, refugees, or live in extreme poverty. Because of this, I have students who represent many cultures, traditions, and ways of life. I see every student in the school and have such an awesome opportunity to watch them grow up and be a part of their education for such a long time.

My Project

Ukuleles are an amazing tool in the music classroom. They help with fine motor skills, rhythm reinforcement, and allow students to play some of their favorite songs, making music class much more engaging and exciting. Students as young as 2nd grade will be given the opportunity to play these instruments and it will give them an introduction to playing string instruments and prepare them for our modern band unit in third grade.

Ukuleles are an invaluable tool to help students feel more comfortable in music making.

They allow them to explore the cultures where ukuleles originated and are prominently used, explore fine and large motor skills, develop an internal ear, and reinforce all of the concepts taught throughout the year.
