My Students

The Students at NES are enthusiastic and eager to learn! They love coming to music to sing, dance and play instruments. The excitement they bring to each class helps to build a wonderful opportunity to perform as an ensemble. In music class the students create bonds with each other as they sing, play and listen to music. They have to use their listening skills, creativity, sensitivity, and the ability to work in a group to come together to perform each class. I love teaching my students because they have a love of learning that mirrors the love I have of teaching them music!

My Project

Ukuleles are a great way to teach concepts like melody, rhythm, harmony, form and style. They’re also an excellent way to actively engage students in music making. Students can easily learn how to accompany themselves while singing. Because of it’s smaller size, the ukulele is more comfortable to hold than a guitar. The ukulele uses the same fingerings as a guitar but with only four strings. This makes learning how to play chords much simpler. Students will find success immediately. The ukulele is an instrument students can play alone or with a group regardless of the skill level. Students are enthusiastic to learn such a diverse instrument that can be used to express themselves musically!
