Help me give my students new ukulele strings as our 10 year old ukuleles have never been restrung leading to a dull, buzzing sound due to old or broken off strings.
"Since the beginning of time, children have not liked to study. They would much rather play, and if you have their interests at heart, you will let them learn while they play" - Carl Orff
I teach over 550 students and they make me laugh and smile everyday!
They come to music excited to learn and I try to give them every opportunity to experience the joy of music through the powerful avenue of play.
My students are blessed to be in a school with amazing, caring teachers who do their very best to teach the whole child by nourishing the intellectual, social, emotional, physical and artistic development of each student.
My Project
My students love to play ukuleles! After learning just two or three chords, a whole new musical world opens up to them as they can accompany themselves on literally hundreds of songs both new and old. I love to see their enthusiasm as they want to play songs again and again and again!
I have taught ukulele for four years at my school and have noticed a decline in the sound of my ukuleles as they have not been restrung since they were purchased 10 years ago through a previous music teacher.
Three of my ukuleles have broken strings and many others have a dull, buzzing sound. My kids would be so excited to have brand new strings to bring back the bright, cheerful sound these instruments bring to our classroom.
Once we get these new strings on our ukuleles, I would like to start a "Music Helper" in my classroom, where students can come in before or after school and tune my ukuleles with our new tuners after they have been used for the day. This not only teaches a great skill and gives a leadership role to budding "uke" players, it also frees me up to do other things.
