My students need 15 Makala Soprano Ukuleles to further their individual music playing skills.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
My musically inquisitive K-5 students live in a high poverty urban school district in Northwest Indiana, and they are thrilled to play any type of instrument they can get their hands on! They are very appreciative of the opportunity to play instruments so they take great care of them. They realize just how special it is to play any instrument. We have purchased colored bells and Boomwhackers in the past, and the students have really enjoyed them.
I see over 500 students for only an hour every week, and it amazes me what they have learned over their young years.
I want my students to have an opportunity to learn on an instrument such as the ukulele so that they can expand their personal musicality on their own in the future. With this gift of ukuleles, I could do just that!
Music is everywhere, and our urban students use music to escape from their noisy world. It is our hope that these students leave elementary school with the basics of playing the ukulele so they might further their musical abilities on their own and in the future. Ukuleles are just the right size for our students' little hands!
Our students have enjoyed playing percussion instruments such as colored bells and Boomwhackers, but we would like to add a string instrument to our repertoire!
Now that they have tackled teamwork, playing the ukulele will help the students on a more individual basis.
