My Students
My students have SO many ideas about songs they want to perform and create! Often I will walk into a classroom and sing the first line of “if it’s meant to be” and they enthusiastically belt it out with big grins on their faces! They make me a better teacher by drawing the best out of me with their enthusiasm! Some students are demonstrating understanding of chord changes and harmonies that I did not get until late high school or even college and they are 9-11 years old!
These kids are volunteering to give up recesses and after school time to do this, in addition to their other responsibilities.
I am so blessed to have to opportunity to help them discover and foster their talents!
My Project
A soprano ukulele is one of the easiest ways for young composers and performers to begin to hear and utilize chord changes. These requested ukuleles will enable them to see how melody notes are chosen out of the notes of the chord and, conversely, how chord changes can be chosen based on the pitches of a given melody. All the theoretical knowledge in the world is useless and meaningless without the opportunity to apply it to something that is meaningful to you. This is ESPECIALLY true for this age group.
These ukuleles will enable my students to become lifelong lovers and creators of music!
