Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th and 9th grade students are full of talent and are constantly looking for ways to express themselves musically. In addition to their scheduled hour of music, my students are in the music room before and after school to get their hands on any musical instrument they can! With most of our students coming from low income households, our students seek opportunities at school to get involved and feel like a family. They need a place to belong. The music department provides them with that opportunity!
My Project
I currently have thirteen ukuleles to share with over 20 students in the ukulele club with 20 more students wanting to join. With the addition of these new ukuleles, our students will be able to experience more hands-on applications to the skills they are learning.
With the addition of ukulele tuners, it is our hope that this club will become a student-led group that will allow our students to tune their own instruments, teach their peers songs and share their love of music with each other.
The ukulele club is a place for students to feel like a family and develop relationships through music.
