My students are an extremely diverse and bright bunch! We are a Title I school in Greensboro, North Carolina with many children from other countries and English as a second language.
Music and movement empowers ALL students at every level of ability.
Not only do they make music, they become collaborative innovators in a cooperative environment!
It is my goal to give my students the tools necessary to be successful 21st century thinkers and citizens. Music is a global language, and I am committed to providing them as many creative outlets as possible.
We are embarking on a new educational initiative and utilizing the curriculum "Little Kid's Rock". In order to use this curriculum along with our other resources, ukuleles are needed in the classroom.
The children will begin by learning about the ukulele, the sound it makes, and how to strum.
As the students become comfortable with the instruments they will learn simple chordal accompaniments to folk and popular music appropriate for the classroom.
Students will learn a variety of folk songs and chord progressions as they move through the "Little Kid's Rock" curriculum on the ukeleles. I hope to have a classroom set of instruments as well as an after school group to play more difficult and advanced literature.
