This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a varied class of students, and many have issues at home and find a school as their safe space. I use music as a way to connect and to reach out to the students. Many love music and using it as an outlet for their creative abilities.
My students love to dance and sing and want to play instruments.
I would love to give them the opportunity to play in an ensemble as well as sing. I would love to give them the opportunity of making music.
My Project
The ukulele is a simple instrument that is easy to learn. My students will be able to learn hands-on how to play chords and single notes on this special instrument.
I love how the ukulele is a great instrument to introduce strings and a great way to step up to other string instruments.
The ukulele will also allow the students to be able to sing and play at the same time.
I would love for my students to be introduced to this ever-growing popular instrument that many schools are using for large and small ensembles, before and after school clubs, and just to learn the science of sound with the vibrations of the strings.
