My students are my biggest fans! They are always so eager to come to music class, even during lunch and recess! A typical day in my classroom consists of singing and playing instruments. We are always up and moving around the room. I always try to give my students class time to play instruments.
My students are not your typical students.
They often come into my classroom with other worries on their minds that kids their age should not have to worry about. I try to not only teach them musical concepts in my classroom but make learning fun! It is a time for them to feel vulnerable in a good way, learn from simply trying and enjoy music.
My Project
My students are hard workers! They are so eager to learn everything they can about music! They are always asking me if they are going to get to play instruments in the classroom that day. My students also really enjoy when I play ukulele in the classroom to accompany their singing! Several students have even asked me to give them lessons to learn how to play! With these ukuleles, my students will learn how to accompany their own singing as well as work together as a group to better their selves musically! My fifth graders will be using these ukuleles in the classroom as well as a potential ukulele club.
Music class is one of the things in their lives that is truly consistent.
It does not discriminate and is for everybody. My students know they are musicians. They are motivated and interested and just need the tool. Ukuleles are becoming increasingly popular in music classrooms, and I want my students to have the same opportunities as students who are required/able to purchase and bring their own ukulele to school. By giving them this opportunity, I hope to increase their love for music for life.
