This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from varied cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds. Most are novice musicians, with a few currently taking private lessons in piano and violin. They are all eager to learn both vocal and instrumental music.

This is the first time there has been only one music teacher for all of the students.

Our school is small, but there is a sense of community and family. They have grown up together through the school, and have built the sense of pride within themselves and the community.

My Project

A lot of our students do not have the opportunity to play instruments outside of the classroom. This project would give them more hands-on time with instruments to which they may not otherwise have access.

Students will be using the ukuleles to enhance our end-of-year concert.

Students, staff, and parents are used to hearing recorded or keyboard accompaniment to our songs. Having the ukuleles played by students will truly bring another dimension to our concerts that has not been heard before. It will also give the students a preview of an instrumental performance that may lead to them joining band in middle school.
