My students are hard-working, kind, responsible, and ready to learn every day. They come to school ready to work hard and put forth their best effort. I am so excited to see all of the amazing things my students will accomplish this year.
Great Relations and High Expectations.
That is the motto in my classroom. We focus on building a family in our room. A positive classroom community is so important for the success of all. I hold my students to very high standards. I know they can meet my expectations. I believe that holding them to high standards causes them to think highly of themselves. They know they can do hard things.
My Project
I am currently in my third year of teaching fourth grade. Most of the furniture in my classroom has been purchased by me. The only things I haven't purchased are the desks and kidney-shaped table. The table is old, peeling apart, and needs to be recycled out. I feel that this new "U-shaped" table will be a great replacement and will last me a long time. I love that it has a dry erase table top; the students can write directly on the table.
A daily mental health check-in can make a world of difference.
I'd love to ask my students to do a mental health check-in or tell me how their feeling. They can write their answers and express their thoughts/ideas on this table. When they first come in, they can head to this table and jot down what they need to be successful for the day.
As a math teacher, I believe my students need to write down their thoughts and plans to show mastery of a skill. This table is a perfect way to do just that. I don't have to invest in individual whiteboards; this table is one giant one. I know this may not seem like a project that is all about the kids and experiences they might have, but I promise you it is. Our small group table is a welcoming place where memories are made. It's such a great place for me to get to know my kids in a more personal setting and for them to get to know me. My students and I value our time at the small group table, and I hope this can be our new one.
