Being the music teacher at an elementary school, I get to introduce a love for the arts to young minds hoping it stays with them forever. Music just brings out happiness, energy and lots of smiles. These students love to sing, dance and learn about all genres of music. From the kindergartners to the 5th graders they excel above my expectations for them every year.
All 806 students come through my class every week and they look forward to music class.
Over 50% of our students come from low to middle class income homes requiring free lunches and school supplies. Our school has a large percentage of military students as our city is home to a United States Air Force base.
I teach some amazingly talented students who love music. In our class we learn music appreciation, sight reading, the solfege using hand signs and so much more. The students have three major free performances a year for our community. All grades participate! No one is left out. We showcase the incredible talent here! These students love music and 95% of them choose music as their elective when they enter into middle school.
My Project
The ukulele is such a fun instrument and learning to play a musical instrument helps in all kinds of areas. Some benefits of learning to play an instrument includes better memory, improved coordination, better concentration, stress relief, and a sense of achievement and happiness.
Since it is a small instrument and easy to learn, kids get excited.
The ukulele is perfect for beginners with smaller hands because it only has 4 strings and is easy for little hands to manipulate.
The ukulele is a good first instrument to teach kids about music and music theory. Through the lessons a child learns about harmony, melody, beat, rhythm and tempo.
