My Students

My fourth grade students come from diverse economic and social backgrounds in a small urban setting. Approximately a third of our school students are from low-income households, which presents a diversity of experiences within one self-contained classroom. Education is an opportunity to unite students while also expanding their experiences.

Sundar Pichai, a Google CEO, has said, "A diverse mix of voices leads to better discussions, decisions, and outcomes for everyone." My students achieve this through prolific reading, writing, discussions, and exploration of our world.

My Project

Chinese jump ropes and single user jump ropes would be a wonderful addition to the classroom supplies.

Jumping is great for the mind and body.

Jumping with either the Chinese or single user jump ropes provides a range of body movement options for even the young athletes who complain of sports injuries. Movements with the rope can lead to crossing the mid-line in the body which helps to calm and focus the mind for math and language tasks. It also builds bone density. The school yard chants and community sharing of movement creates positive relationships.
