Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all come from low-income households and school is their place to interact with others their age. It is also where they get to engage with other adults since most have families where their parents are working almost all day. Our school is small and resources for our students are not easily accessible. But despite that, our preschoolers are always eager to learn and come to school.
We allow them to become who they want to become as they begin their journey to Kindergarten and towards their future.
My Project
New tables in our classroom will change the entire dynamics. Currently, our children sit at tables that have markings on them and that have metal sticking out from the bottom. We have had to tape the bottom of our tables to ensure our children are always safe along with taping cracks that appear on top. New tables will not only help prevent injuries, but it will give the children a cleaner place to eat their food. We eat in our classrooms so the tables are used for both playing and eating. New tables will also encourage the children to want to sit down with a small group or to want to play in a particular center. Art and Toys and Games are our less popular centers because the tables are in such bad shape. We hope with these new tables, children will be encouraged to want to play more in these centers.
