My Students

I teach 5th grade in a low-income school system. Students are able to learn best when they are interested, challenged, and have hands-on experiences. Students don't always see a connection between school and their life, but I challenge myself to bring new experiences to students that challenge them yet directly correlate to the curriculum.

Students strive to do better in order to learn and explore with hands-on concepts.

We are hoping to have hands-on experiences to expand kids' knowledge during two weeks of our statewide testing. This will allow for learning experiences that are interactive during two high-stress weeks for all.

My Project

Students will be able to have a book to follow along with our reading and read on their own at their own pace. This allows for students to use text evidence when responding to their reading. Students will have portions that we may read together and then they are expected to read a portion on their own.

Having a book that they can go back and reread something they didn't quite understand or use text evidence to prove their thoughts is huge!

This book truly allows students to connect with the character and feel this is someone they know. They will be learning while finding a way to enjoy reading.
