Help me give my students a better online experience! In virtual teaching, it's ideal for the teacher to have two monitors so content can be shared on one, and the students can be seen on the other.
I am an English Language Development (ELD) teacher in Harrisburg, PA. My school has a large population of students identified as English learners (ELs). I teach approximately 80 ELs both in school and at home. Some of my students come to school 4 days a week, some 2 days, and some are learning virtually all week. Hybrid/Virtual education is difficult for everyone these days, but students with limited English struggle that much more to be seen and heard.
My students come from a variety of countries around the world and have varying English proficiency levels.
Likewise, they have various levels of experience with technology - much of which is presented in a language that they do not understand. Despite all these challenges, my students are showing up in the middle of a pandemic ready to learn!
My Project
In the world of education, the pandemic has changed everything about the way teachers teach in the classroom and interact with their students. As a teacher, I now teacher students in the classroom and at home AT THE SAME TIME. I like to present my lessons live so the students at home can receive as close to the in class experience as possible. Trying to accomplish this with only ONE monitor means that if I am sharing content from my screen, I cannot necessarily SEE my students at home very well. I may not notice chat notifications, because the application window is buried under the windows I am sharing with my students at home.
Having dual monitors, allows me to share content from one screen and still be able to see the students at home on the other screen.
This is very important to maintaining communication with students.
A second monitor also allows me to multi-task in a more efficient manner. In a time when planning and crafting lessons in such a new way, takes so much time - any seconds and minutes I can save by running a more efficient desktop are precious!
Please help me make this a reality, by donating towards the addition of a second monitor station for my workspace.
