I teach at a wonderful middle school that has been recognized four times as a "school to watch." This is very remarkable since we live in a high-poverty area, and many of our students have difficulty finding support for musical enrichment outside of our classroom.
My students thrive in a student-centered learning environment where they can discover and learn by using our classroom tools and technology.
We have very little room in our classroom budget for anything but basic music needs and instrument repairs.
My Project
We have been using a wall mounted TV in our music classes for a few years now. It has been an educational game changer! We use this tool in conjunction with our DonorsChoose.org funded Apple TV. This has replaced the traditional whiteboard for conveying information and doubles as a great multi-media aid.
Our middle school, currently 6-8, will be adding 5th grade to our building next year.
In addition to our new students, we will be adding exciting new music classes to our curriculum. In order to facilitate these new classes, we will be utilizing our school's auditorium as a music classroom. We will need a television for this new learning space.
