Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm a first grade reading teacher in Houston, Texas. About 99% of my students are Title I which basically means they really don't have a ton of money or even a gallon-sized zip lock bag of resources. Our students are also transitioning from Spanish to English which makes educating them a bit more challenging. I know their parents are trying their best to help them have a better future. I also try hard to give them my best, but I personally can only do so much.
My school was greatly impacted by the effects of Hurricane Harvey.
We were one of 4 schools in my school district that lost everything. 3 of the schools have since been restored and are up and running. We have now been relocated to a second temporary location and the stress has been building.
My Project
Our students love learning physical education. We teach them a variety of activities ranging from aerobics to zumba, as well as folk dance and team sports. The devastation of Hurricane Harvey is still lingering as we have not been able to return to our school's home location. We are without a gym therefore our P.E. classes take place in grassy areas in front of the classrooms, which are temporary buildings.
Our students will be extremely excited to be able to use the television to do aerobics outside.
In addition to aerobics we can use the television to show various professional team sports. The outdoor extension cord will be used to go from the classrooms to the areas just outside where the classes are held. I have also included headphones because of a listening center I have laptops for, but no headphones.
