My Students

78.3 percent of students at S.F.A. Elementary receive free lunch. As of 2016, the percent of students at this school who pass the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) across all subjects is higher than average for Texas at 80.3 percent.

Elementary are considered to have limited English proficiency, which is higher than the median across all reported elementary schools in Texas (19 percent).

My Project

As an Environmental Science Academy, pets are housed in every classroom. Sheldon, our turtle, is the focal point of our school. His 100 gallon tank sits in the foyer for all students to observe and study.

Turtles carry salmonella, which can lead to a bacteria illness for those that handle the turtle and care of the tank.

A larger, heavy-duty filter will help keep the tank cleaner and the bacteria to a minimum.

As a school district, we must make sure to keep our students and staff as safe as possible from any bacteria that any animal may have.
