Turning Yardsticks into History!

Help me give my students the finishing touches on our Gettysburg reenactment simulation, as well as a place to recharge their one-to-one technology. The yardsticks will take on a new life, as our Civil War era muskets!

My Students

I am the proud Social Studies teacher of a fantastic group of 125 students at a middle school in Milford, Michigan. I have always loved this age group as students have a passion for social issues and justice, that works so powerfully well in a history classroom.

In our classroom, we learn to be historians and immerse ourselves in early American history.

I make great efforts to create lessons that are rich in primary sources and peer discussion to teach the craft of history, as we become investigators into the past. I use a host of activities and simulations to make history truly come alive in my classroom.

My Project

Thank you for considering the improvements our class is hoping to make! This donation request includes a few power strips, as we have one to one technology but very few outlets available to students in class who need to charge their device. Also included are 2 flagpoles to hoist the Union and Confederate flag positions at the Battle of Gettysburg reenactment.

Finally, the yardsticks will serve as our Civil War muskets, and students will be learning to "load" these weapons, as well as proper training that soldiers underwent to help make their history classroom and the Civil War time period come alive!
