My Students

Excitement, triumph, empowerment, and experiences - this is what we hope to offer students in need during a week long summer camp that will focus on literacy, academics, and leadership.

The students attending the camp are at-risk of dropping out for academic and social reasons.

Many of them have negative behaviors that keep them from building positive relationships at school. By relying on one another and their mentors at camp, students will build positive relationships that will continue throughout next year. Students will start school empowered to change their lives.

My Project

7% of our students are reading below a 5th grade level. Our camp will close the gap for these students by making reading come alive. Reading will be an active discovery, not a passive experience. We will literally transport students to the places we read about so they can experience the book and comprehend what they are reading. Reading along with audio books during the week with this iPod will also increase their fluency. By the end of the week, our students will triumph over a life-long struggle and prove to themselves that they can triumph in other academic areas of their lives.

As you can see, this summer camp is an amazing new program at our school.
